The port occupies a central place in its territory, a link between the city and industry, between the sea and the land. To manage energy with efficiency and to reduce the environmental footprint is to connect port – city – industry, and to give the port a new function. Ports are suppliers of resources and the energies they utilise enable them to connect with the city and the territory. We shall present the recuperation of heat from the Arcelor factory to heat the city of Dunkirk, the project for the recuperation of extreme cold from the methane port in Barcelona, the enhancement of wastelands as platforms of energy resources and also the place of marine energy as the local resource closest to the requirements of the port city.
